We can’t over-emphasise the importance of interview practise along with practising everything you learn in the TAFE Queensland Job Readiness Program.
Interviews can be one of the most nerve-wracking and unnatural-feeling steps of job seeking. As such, they usually require the most practice.
If you undertake numerous unsuccessful interviews before you land a graduate job (let’s face it, most of us do!), you will certainly have an opportunity to practice.
But you’ll also find plenty of resources online to help with your pre-interview practise:
- Common interview questions – we can vouch for having heard all of these in interview situations of our own
- Group interview questions – sometimes used for largscale recruitment
- Aptitude test examples – often administered in person when you’re onsite for an interview
- Even questions for you to ask your employers at interview!
At a practical level, all forms of in-person networking, from one-on-one coffee meetings to dedicated networking events, also represent excellent opportunities for practising the direct and highly verbal nature of an interview (particularly if you’re working in a second language).
Or practise with a friend or family member. Or in front of the mirror. Or with your dog. It WILL get easier.
